What a Rumble

Last night was the 18th annual WWE Royal Rumble. I was pumped for this Pay-Per-View for the whole weekend and was pleased witht he event as a whole. I will now go through the card and give my opinions on the matches and events of the event.

Shawn Michaels vs. Edge:
Well, HBK is my favorite wrestler of all time so I was very pumped for this bout and both man put on a good contest. It didn't seem as good as it could have been but maybe both men were holding back some since they had to be in the Rumble itself later in the night. This match still was pretty good and had some good spots in it. I was thinking this match would happen again at Wrestlemania so the ending which had Edge cheat to win by holding the ropes should have actually had him win it somewhat cleanly to elevate him some.

Casket Match: Undertaker vs. Heidenreich:
As much as a lot of fans hate Heidenreich I thought he did his share to make this match entertaining. The match saw Gene Snitsky interfere early on which had Kane come out of the casket to take Snitsky out of the equation. A good big man match which had the Undertaker win after Tombstoning Heidenreich and stuffing him in the casket. The match made Heidenreich look strong and sets up a tag match with Taker and Kane vs. Snitsky and Heidenreich at Wrestlemania. Since Kane and Taker will probably win there they should have let Heidenreich win this match to make him seem somewhat of an equal to the Deadman.

WWE Title Triple Threat Match: JBL vs. Big Show vs. Kurt Angle:
Entertaining if not short match between these three. Since it was No DQ they had some good spots with Big Show falling through the announce table and with him tackling JBL through the ringside barrier. The ending had a little too much interference but JBL picked up the win after clotheslining Angle after being helped back into the ring by Orlando. Glad they let JBL keep the belt as he has been damned entertaining lately as champ and it sets up JBL vs. Big Show at No Way Out in a barbed wire cage match which is in Pittsburgh and I hope to go and see.

World Title Match: Triple H vs. Randy Orton:
This match was alright. It got good later on but built way too slow. Triple H retained after Orton was seemingly concussed. It looked like Randy was really fucked up so i hope he is alright. I hope this is the end of this feud for awhile though.

The Royal Rumble 30-Man Battle Royale:
Very entertaining throughout this thing. Some good moments were Haas and Benjamin reuniting for a little while, HBK and Angle getting there feud started which should lead to a dream match at Wrestlemanie, Paul London taking a helluva bump when he did a full backflip after getting clotheslined by Snitsky, and the ending which could have been terrible as it seemed to be a tie between Batista and John Cena but was thankfully restarted and had Batista win it. Glad they had a sort of unique ending like this as it builds both Cena and Batista up good to face their brands respective Champions at Wrestlemania. Glad to see Batista win it since he has been built up well as a serious threat for the past couple months.

Overall I'd give this event an A and say that it is definitely worth a watch and DVD buy.
